Kevin Kiniery

KEVIN KINIERY was born on December 28, 1961 at the Elizabeth General Hospital to the parents Philip and Phyllis.  He was raised on Chilton Street with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Kevin attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School, where he graduated in June 1975.  Kevin was given the school’s first Model Student Award.  He then went on to attend St. Patrick’s High School, where he graduated from in June 1979.  

Kevin was awarded the Spirit of St. Patrick Award. This award is given to the graduating senior who exemplifies school spirit and is a model student.

Kevin’s journey continued when he joined the Elizabeth Police Department in September 1983.  He served in the Patrol Division and the D.A.R.E. Unit until December 1995.  In December 1995 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  During his tenure as SGT Kiniery, he served in the Patrol, Communications, Community Services, Narcotics and the Traffic Divisions.  While assigned to the Traffic Division, parts of his responsibilities were to ensure the safety of the public during the City of Elizabeth Parades.  Specifically the largest parade in the City of Elizabeth, The Elizabeth Portugal Day Parade. 

It was in March 2014, when Kevin decided to make a career change and ran for 3rd Ward Councilman in the City of Elizabeth.  In June 2014, Kevin won the primary election.  In September 2014, Kevin ended his career with the Elizabeth Police Department after 31 years of service.  In November 2014, Kevin won the General Election and was sworn in as 3rd Ward Councilman on January 1, 2015 for a four year term.

Kevin is supported by his wife Millie, daughter Sarah and her husband Steve, daughter Amanda and her fiancé Kevin, son Liam and stepsons Carlos and Daniel.  Kevin is a proud member of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club.
